About the Canary Islands

University of La Laguna, Tenerife (Canary Islands)

EUTIC 2024 will be held at the University of La Laguna, in the city of San Cristóbal de La Laguna (Tenerife, Canary Islands).

San Cristóbal de La Laguna, commonly known as La Laguna, is a city and municipality belonging to the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, on the island of Tenerife (Canary Islands, Spain). La Laguna is the second most populous city in Tenerife and the third in the Canary Islands.

It is located in the northeast of the island, next to the city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, with which it is physically and urbanistically connected, being considered twin cities.

San Cristóbal de La Laguna

The city was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999 for being a unique example of a non-fortified colonial city. It is home to the Consultative Council of the Canary Islands, the Institute of Astrophysics of the Canary Islands, the Diocese of Tenerife, Tenerife North Airport, and the University Hospital of the Canary Islands. Additionally, the city is also the location of the first university founded in the Canary Islands (the University of La Laguna), as well as the first and oldest active institute in the archipelago, historically making La Laguna the intellectual center of the Canary Islands. It was the seat of the Captaincy General of the Canary Islands (1656-1723), and until 1833, it was the de facto capital of the Canary Islands.

Puerto de la Cruz

Under the gaze of Teide, the third tallest volcano in the world from its submarine base, and bathed by the Atlantic Ocean, Puerto de la Cruz has been captivating tourists since the 19th century. In this town in the north of Tenerife, you can stroll among typical Canarian buildings along the well-kept beaches of its coast, or spend a fun day at the Loro Parque zoo. For relaxation, the best option is to spend the day in the saltwater pools of Lago Martiánez, designed by César Manrique.

This town will host the celebration of the third day of the congress.

Tenerife

Tenerife has two important airports: in the northern area, Tenerife-North Airport, also known as Los Rodeos; and in the southern area of the island, Tenerife-South Airport, or Reina Sofía. Tenerife-North Airport (a taxi to La Laguna costs approximately 14€), located in the municipality of San Cristóbal de La Laguna, is recommended for arrival due to its proximity to the conference venue (just ten minutes by car). The commercial offering of airlines operating between the Peninsula and Tenerife is extensive, particularly with Tenerife-North Airport Los Rodeos, where the following airlines regularly operate: IBERIA, IBERIA EXPRESS, AIR EUROPA, VUELING, and RYANAIR.

In addition, for inter-island flights, BINTER CANARIAS operates. It is highly recommended to purchase tickets well in advance as prices tend to increase as the flight date approaches.

Tenerife is an eruption of black land and green nature stirred by an intense blue sea, creating a festival of whimsical shapes and hues that emerge in the middle of the Atlantic. It is the perfect place to enjoy a spectacular panoramic view of the island with the greatest biological diversity and contrasts in the Canary Archipelago.

It is one of the most visited Canary Islands by tourists. Tenerife offers culture, nature, gastronomy, and also spectacular beaches, ranging from the most family-friendly and crowded ones, full of activities and services, to beautiful wild beaches where you can disconnect from the hustle and bustle of the world while feeling that time stands still. The island has different beaches according to our needs and even according to our mood.
